When you're camping in a large RV park, at the dunes, or out in the desert, finding your campsite during the day usually isn't difficult. At night, everything changes. Rows of trailers begin to look alike. Familiar landmarks disappear in the dark. And when you're coming back from a ride, walking around the campground, or trying to direct friends to your camp, a small flag or light near ground level may not be enough. That's where height matters.
Why Height Makes a Campsite Easier to Find
The higher your campsite marker sits, the better chance you have of seeing it above surrounding trailers, RVs, vehicles, tents and other obstacles. A light mounted only a few feet from the ground can easily disappear behind a neighboring toy hauler. A tall illuminated campsite locator gives you a much larger visual reference point. Instead of searching for your exact trailer in the dark, you're looking for a recognizable light above the campsite.
Is 10 or 15 Feet High Enough?
It depends on where you camp. For a smaller campsite with few obstructions, a shorter flag pole may work perfectly well. But RVs, fifth wheels and toy haulers themselves can be well over 10 feet tall. In a crowded campground or large desert camp, that means a shorter campsite marker can become hidden. Height Isn't the Only Thing That Matters
A tall pole by itself doesn't necessarily make a great nighttime campsite locator. At night, illumination is what makes the height useful. A traditional flag may be easy to see during daylight but nearly disappear once the sun goes down. An illuminated locator combines the advantages of height with nighttime visibility. DipWhipz also uses RGBW lighting, allowing campers to create a recognizable color or lighting pattern for their campsite. That can be especially helpful when several camps are using illuminated flags or poles nearby.
